At the center of what I do as an artist is the wish to convey a feeling. I think that's what most creative people are trying to do, and each of us has a different feeling we are trying to share. I can recall having this same need even as a very young artist- a need to convey a sense of awe, beauty, power... of longing, striving toward something warm and luminous.
Earliest influences included, above all, Nature- the patterns of growth and decay, chaos and order, life and death- tell stories that are, in my eyes, immensely artistic. Then the masters: Da Vinci, Dali, Giger, Max Ernst. Above all, though, was my immersion in the tattoo world, which led me toward a design aesthetic that emphasises flow, readability, and the ability to compel from a distance or up close. Tattooing also taught me the importance of technical mastery and thoughtful, premeditated technique.
My output as a painter encompasses a wide range. I do plenty of simple observational paintings, both still life and landscape, with the objectives of developing my brushwork and of trying to capture that warm intangible emotion. I also make fantastical inner landscapes where those observations of Nature's truths can be brought together with my wilder compositional flights of fancy.
Ultimately, I'm trying to have fun while making a beautiful handcrafted object. And I hope that when you look at it, you feel something.
